Situated deep within the relatively unexplored Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, directly opposite Chikwenya Island and on the eastern boundary of Mana Pools National Park, lies Mwambashi River Lodge. Mwambashi's unique location makes it the ultimate safari destination.
Access to Mwambashi River Lodge is normally by air charter directly into the camp's 1 000m airstrip from either Livingstone or Lusaka. The alternative option is by road and boat with transfers available from Kariba and Lusaka.
Mwambashi River Lodge is situated in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park on the northern banks of the river, directly opposite Chikwenya Island and the eastern boundary of the Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe.
Transfers (extra cost a our published rates)
Self drive - Clients self-driving from Lusaka, should be at the Kafue Pontoon launch site at 12h00. From here clients are transported to Mwambashi River Lodge by motorboat and / or vehicle through the National Park (approximately 3 hours).
Road and boat (ex Kariba or Lusaka) - If travelling from Kariba, Safari Par Excellence require that guests arrive in Kariba the night prior to the start of the safari to avoid clients being left behind due to delayed flights. The preferred meeting place and time in Kariba on the day of departure is the Kariba Breezes Hotel at 09h30. However, clients requiring pick-ups form other hotels in Kariba will be collected at approximately 09h00-09h30.
On the last day of this Zambia safari, clients are advised to make hotel reservations for that night, as they will only be dropped off in Kariba at approximately 15h30. We will not be able to get clients back to Kariba for any flights departing before 16h00.
Air charters - ex Lusaka / Mfuwe / Livingstone - The most efficient and enjoyable access is to charter into Jeki Airstrip. The strip is situated +/-5 kilometres east of the lodge. A charter service can be arranged and clients wishing to charter in form or out to Lusaka, Mfuwe or Livingstone can do so on request. The charter will fly into Jeki airstrip.
Lengths of flights are as follows:
- Lusaka - Jeki +/- 25 minutes
- Mfuwe - Jeki +/- 1 hour 10 minutes
- Livingstone - Jeki +/- 1 hour 45 minutes
Safari Par Excellence strongly recommends that clients charter.

Please note that National Parks landing fees at Jeki are for the clients' own account!(minimum and maximum pax)
