Nkwali Camp is located on private land in South Luangwe, Zambia. This area is excellent game country and also boasts Ebony woodlands and sweeping open grass plains. The Thornicroft Giraffe and Elephant are seen daily in this area, often in large numbers. The Elephant also frequently crosses the river in front of the camp.
The camp itself is situated along the banks of the Luangwe River and boasts the most breathtaking views of the National Park and the river. Access to the camp is by boat (all year round) or by pontoon (dry season of May to October).
The camp boasts the most highly skilled and experienced guides who will share their wisdom, knowledge and humour with you as you enjoy an exciting and unforgettable game drive. Nkwali offers daily walks and drives as well as night drives. There are also regular visits to the Kawaza Village and school for a cultural experience.
Nkwali Camp is open all year round and the months of the green season you will be able to boat up the river with a guide, and explore the lagoon. This is when the animals and the birds are in their peak breeding season. Visiting during the 'emerald season' is indeed a unique, beautiful and interesting safari experience.
Luangwe Valley:
The Luangwe Valley marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, and is one of the few unspoilt wilderness areas and one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. It covers an area of about 9 000 sq kilometres. This area boasts a large concentration of game including Elephant, Buffalo, Leopard, Lion, Giraffe, Hippo and over 400 species of bird.
